White Pine Lights On Afterschool participants will see what their children have been working on, while discussing the importance of afterschool programs.  Organized by the Afterschool Alliance, Lights On Afterschool has been celebrated annually since 2000.  This year, more than one million Americans will take part in the only nationwide rally for afterschool programs.

This September, the Afterschool Alliance released a new report on parents’ views on afterschool and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programming. Drawing on data from America After 3PM, it found widespread support for STEM education in afterschool, with 70 percent of parents saying they believed afterschool programs should provide STEM learning, and 80 percent of parents with children in afterschool saying they are satisfied with their child’s program’s STEM offerings.

Lights On Afterschool is organized by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure that all children have access to quality afterschool programs.
