Ball Corporation honored with Governor’s Safety Award
There are over 140,000 employers in Tennessee.
Only eight will receive the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Governor’s Safety Award this year.
Yesterday afternoon, state officials announced that Ball Corporation of Dandridge is in that elite group.
Ball, which has 140 employees and manufactures metal containers, qualified for the award by working more than 300,000 hours without a lost time or restricted duty workplace injury or illness.
“Ball Corporation has demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” said Jim Flanagan, Manager of the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program, as he presented company leaders with a plaque yesterday. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”
“The safety and well-being of our employees is Ball’s top priority,” said Mike Boyle, plant manager at Ball’s facility in Chestnut Hill, where over a billion metal containers are produced each year. “We strive to be a safety leader in the manufacturing industry, and our long-term goal is zero work-related incidents. Our employees are very dedicated to this goal and work diligently to continually improve our safety performance. This award is a testament to their hard work.”
The Governor’s Safety Award, announce by Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips, honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.
