George Gantte honored with the Sam Walton Leadership Award Gantte was honored Thursday night (June 7, 2012) at the graduation banquet for this year’s class of Leadership Jefferson County. The award is presented annually to someone who exemplifies leadership skills like the late Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, and includes a framed certificate and a $200 gift card to Wal-Mart. “In each project in which he participates, he dives in head first and gives a wholehearted effort to create something good for Jefferson County,” said Wal-Mart Supercenter Manager Joe Gibson, who presented the award. The Sam Walton Award winner is also well-known for his work throughout Jefferson County – especially in Dandridge. Gantte has always been involved in the community, supporting citizens and civic organizations such as the Dandridge Merchants and Professional Association, the Dandridge Main Street Program, Martha Dandridge Garden Club, Music on the Town, June Jubilee and the Dandridge Ministerial Association. He has also been a big supporter of the Dandridge Volunteer Fire Department. While Mayor Gantte is grateful for his town’s volunteers, he is quick to say that the town employees are the real heroes who make the quality of life enjoyed by Dandridge citizens possible.
