Tennova Healthcare Presents “Getting Your House in Order”

Free seminar to take place at six convenient locations across the region

KNOXVILLE, TN (August 21, 2018) – Tennova Healthcare invites the community to attend a free end-of-life planning seminar entitled “Getting Your House in Order.”

Since unexpected situations can happen at any age, it’s important for all adults to be prepared. This seminar focuses on how to leave an organized estate and reduce the stress a person’s loved ones will experience during an emotionally difficult time.

From practical matters to making one’s final wishes known, the “Getting Your House in Order” seminar provides a step-by-step approach to collecting critical information and organizing it in one place. Attendees will receive a complimentary “House in Order” workbook that provides guidance on items to consider gathering, such as medical history, estate and financial information, funeral plans and advance directives.

A representative from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission will be here to discuss the Drive to 55. The goal of this initiative is to increase the number of Tennesseans that have a postsecondary credential to meet the industry demands for skilled workers. Students and adults are also provided opportunities to fund this training at the technical and community colleges across the state with the Tennessee Promise Scholarship and the Tennessee Reconnect Grant. Please plan to attend this session which will be offered every half hour beginning at 5pm.

DANDRIDGE SCOTS-IRISH FESTIVAL to Celebrate 12^th Year in East Tennessee

DANDRIDGE, Tenn. – Outstanding Scottish & Irish Entertainers vie for attention with the Bagpipe & Drum Band Playoff Challenge at the 12th annual Dandridge Scots-Irish Festival, which will take place on Main Street in downtown Dandridge, Tennessee on Saturday the 29^th of September.

The Festival will begin at the Highland Stage (behind Town Hall) in Dandridge on Friday night, Sept. 28, with a reception honoring its financial sponsors and contributing patrons. The festival remains 100% Sponsor & Patron driven as it provides free admission to the public for all events on Saturday.

Saturday’s experience will be a trip back in time to enjoy the heritage of the original Scots-Irish who settled in East Tennessee ca. 1783, following the Revolutionary War. Visitors will experience Scottish & Irish music, Highland Dancing, Irish Step Dancing, Heritage organizations, Highland Clan booths, Highland Cattle & Black Faced sheep exhibits, Sheepdog Trials, Highland Athletic demonstrations and Storytellers for both children and adults. Scottish & Irish Food, baked goods, meals & treats will abound as well as Scots & Irish merchandise vendors, and much more.

Highland (Main) Stage entertainment will feature three Scottish/Irish bands, including: The Celtic Martin Family (Newmansville, PA); Raven & Red (Nashville, TN); Trip Rogers (Charlotte, NC). On the Lowland Stage, Dollywood piper & harpist. Kelly Shipe, will perform along with the O’Kennessee Strings and Singer/Fiddler/Storyteller Kathryn Powell.

The 5^th Annual Pipe & Drum Band Challenge Playoff Competition will include the Knoxville Pipes & Drums; the North Georgia Pipes & Drums and the Nashville Pipes & Drums. These bands will play twice each during the day as well as marching in the Ceremonial Parade on Main Street at Noon and as Mass Bands on the Dike at 4pm. They will be performing for public judging to take home the Best Band Award.

Individual entertainers of renown include Robert Valentine, Scottish Emcee (Murray, KY); children’s storyteller/fiddler/singer Kathryn Powell (Arlington, TX); Piper/Harpist Kelly Shipe; award winning highland dancer Claire Macmillan (Knoxville) & her students; as well as award winning Irish step dancer Katie Carver (Chattanooga,TN) and her students from Maryville, TN.

Following the evening Ceilidh (concert) Saturday evening on Loch Douglas, most of the above entertainers will be on stage for a special Ceilidh Encore. Bagpiper Kelly Shipe will close the evening with her 12^th annual rendition of ‘Piper on the Dike’ while spotlighted on the otherwise completely dark dike behind Town Hall & the Highland Stage.

Returning for 2018 is our fabulous Ale Garden featuring a selection of Scottish, Irish & Mountain ales from Highland Brewing Company and Cherokee Distributing.

‘Days Gone By’, an old-time children’s playground (Sevierville) returns for their twelth year. The Games’ Highland Heavy athletic demonstration will be performed by Randy Gratz, Lt.Col.(USAF retired) now of the Florida Keys. Randy will demo events including the caber toss, hammer throw, stone put and more. Phil Lakin will bring his Highland cattle, Scottish black-faced sheep and his Border Collie sheep dogs, a must-see exhibit for guests. Phil will also have his Border Collies perform as in a ‘sheepdog trials’ on the Dike. Roger Kelley (Jefferson City) will exhibit his Civil War books & uniforms.

There will also be a dog parade down Main Street and will feature dogs brought to the festival by visitors.

While the weekend of family fun and festivities celebrates the area’s Scots-Irish roots, the event appeals to a wide range of guests – whether their ancestors were Scots-Irish or not – for a day of outstanding fun, food and entertainment.

“We appreciate the approximately five to six thousand individuals who attend the Dandridge Scots-Irish Festival each year,” said chairman Mike Dockery. “Spending a weekend celebrating a unique culture and all the fun that goes along with it is certainly a sight to see.”

The Cherokee Lake Users Association (CLUA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 association. Our purpose is to help maintain, protect and enhance the quality of Lake Cherokee and its surroundings. CLUA is specifically interested in keeping the lake clean. Annual Fall Lake Clean-up is SEPTEMBER 29th, in partnership with, Carson Newman University, TVA and local marina's.
