The East Tennessee Development District (ETDD) held its Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday evening, July 13, at the Venue in Lenoir City. The banquet was attended by over 130 local elected officials and staff members from ETDD. The Honorable Tre Hargett, Tennessee Secretary of State, provided keynote comments at the banquet.

Each year at the Awards Banquet, the East Tennessee Development District recognizes local governments and other agencies for the completion of projects that have special local or regional significance.

During the awards ceremony, ETDD recognized Jefferson County and New Market Utility District for the completion of a water line extension project that provided public water to a total of 60 homes and 146 individuals. The project involved the extension of over 23,000 lf of six-inch water lines into an unserved area. The total cost of the project was $527,688.00 with Community Development grant funds contributing $453,507.10 of the total.

The Town of Dandridge was recognized for the completion of a water system interconnection with Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB). The new connection will allow the Dandridge Water Department to purchase up to 13.5 million gallons of water per month from KUB and provide a redundant water supply source to the Town. The Dandridge Water system serves 3,000 customers in Dandridge and Jefferson County, and has been an important provider of water service to rural residents that live outside of the Town limits.

ETDD also recognized the City of Jefferson City for the opening of the new Mossy Creek Station Park. The theme of the facility was inspired by the former Mossy Creek trains station. The development of the facility is the culmination of an 11-year collaboration between Jefferson City, citizen volunteers and the Mossy Creek Foundation. The facility features a Veterans Plaza with bricks inscribed with the names of 560 local veterans, a beautiful open-air pavilion, and new restroom facilities. Future additions to the facility will include benches, steps, handrails, a train themed playground and amphitheater seating.
