Boys & Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley, Strawberry Plains Branch to Hold Lights On Afterschool Event October 25th
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley afterschool program will sponsor a Lights On Afterschool event on October 25th from 4-6pm. The event will be one of more than an expected 8,000 such events across America as part of Lights On Afterschool, the annual nationwide celebration of afterschool programs organized by the Afterschool Alliance. This year, Lights On Afterschool will highlight youth voices in the upcoming national election, encouraging kids to share their thoughts with the next president and teaching them about our electoral process.
Participants in the Lights On Afterschool rally include Jefferson City Mayor Mark Potts. The event will spotlight the range of programming available at Dumplin Valley’s four Clubs including its STEM activities, academic support through daily Power Hour, physical fitness programs, and community partnerships such as Parrott-Wood Library. Groups of parents, supporters and community members are expected to attend.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley opened in 1999 with a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It now serves almost 1500 children, providing homework assistance, mentoring, tutoring, and classes and clubs in sports, recreation, mathematics, and dozens of other subjects.
