Food give-away Saturday in White Pine

Nearly 15,000 pounds of food will be given away at a mobile pantry.
The pantry is designed to provide assistance to families and individuals in need.

This event will be open to anyone who is able to make it to the site of the pantry, and guests will be allowed to select their own food and products with the assistance of a volunteer of Compassion Ministries. The first 300 attendees should receive about $150 to $200 worth of food and other products, estimates Robin Rolland. Rolland also said the food given away will total between $30,000 and $40,000.

 Upon arriving, individuals will be given a number and then asked to stand in line until their number is called for service.

The pantry will also have clothing items, cosmetics from CVS Pharmacy, and books for children. United Healthcare, a partner of Compassion Ministries, will also be there to educate individuals and families on healthcare opportunites and services.

Compassion Ministries operates out of Cornerstone Church in Knoxville. Volunteers provide a mobile pantry once a month in one of 18 counties in the Cumberland and Appalachian areas of East Tennessee.
